Summary
After showing courage by trying many new things, Little Mouse becomes Brave Mouse when he realizes that it is sometimes good to say no to things he is not ready to try. Lots of things scare Little Mouse-dark shadows, bright lights, loud noises, and even silence. When his parents go out, Little Mouse is afraid to stay with the babysitter. But a small voice inside him says, "They'll be back soon. Wait and see. You're a brave mouse-as brave as brave can be!" That small voice helps him in many different situations-at the swimming pool, trying new foods, at the dentist, in his dark room at night. But when he goes to the park and doesn't want to play on some of the equipment, his friends call him a scaredy-mouse! Now Little Mouse knows when he can be a brave, brave mouse and do something new. And he knows when he can stand up for himself and say NO! Children will recognize their own fears and reactions in Little Mouse's behavior. Michelle Cartlidge's sweet illustrations perfectly complement Michaela Morgan's simple, gentle text. Ms. Morgan divides her time between England and France. Ms. Cartlidge lives in England. This is their first book for Albert Whitman
